Electric Car Subsidies in India 2025
In 2025, a total of eight states are offering subsidies for electric cars. States that are offering subsidies on buying four-wheel electric vehicles are
- Maharashtra
- Goa
- Gujarat
- West Bengal
- Assam
- Uttar Pradesh
- Bihar
If you belong to any of the above-mentioned states and are going to buy an electric car, you may get a subsidy of up to ₹2 lakh. To get the benefit of a subsidy, it is mandatory that you meet the eligibility requirements.
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, on buying an electric car as an individual, you can get a subsidy of ₹1.5 lakh; for the fleet passenger EVs, you may get ₹2 lakh. Not only this, but the ₹1 lakh subsidy is also applicable for electric light commercial vehicles (E-LCVs) under 3.5 tonnes.
- Additionally, you will get exemption from the road tax and registration fee.
- If you want to replace an old vehicle with an EV, you can get a ₹25,000 scrappage incentive.
- Note that you can get the benefit only if you buy a car listed under the Maharashtra EV policy.
Goa
The state government is offering a subsidy of up to 1.5 lakh rupees for an electric car bought by an individual. To claim a subsidy, you are required to meet the eligibility requirement:
- You buy a new electric car in Goa and register it with the regional transport office (RTO) within the state.
With the subsidy on buying the EV, you will also get 100% exemption from the road tax and registration fee.
Gujarat
In Gujarat, you can get a subsidy of up to ₹1.5 lakh on buying a new four-wheel EV. It is available for an electric car with up to a 15 kWh battery, i.e., for each kWh you are going to get a subsidy of ₹10,000.
Additionally, you also get exemption from the road tax and registration fee. If you buy an electric car that is under the state’s EV policy, you won’t get the benefit of subsidy.
West Bengal
If you belong to WB and are going to buy an electric car, you will be happy to know that the state government is offering a subsidy of up to ₹50,000 and full exemption from the road tax and registration fee. You can get the benefit only if you meet the eligibility requirements:
- You are a permanent resident of West Bengal and are going to register the car with the RTO within the state.
Note that the subsidy isn’t available for all EVs; you can get this benefit only if you buy the one that comes under the list of the West Bengal EV policy.
Assam
Like other states, Assam also offers subsidies on buying new electric cars within the state. If you buy a car and register with the state’s RTO, you can get a subsidy of ₹1.5 with exemptions from the registration fee and road tax.
The subsidy is available to individual buyers; fleet passenger EVs aren’t eligible for it. Make sure that you buy a car that comes under the Assam State Electric Vehicle policy; otherwise, you will not get its benefits.
Uttar Pradesh
To boost the sale of electric vehicles in the state, the Government of Uttar Pradesh has come up with a scheme to provide subsidies on electric cars. If you buy a four-wheel EV in UP, you will get a subsidy of ₹1 lakh, and you won’t have to pay road tax and registration fees.
Additionally, the state government is offering interest-free advances for their employees purchasing EVs. Whether you buy an electric car as individuals or fleet operators, you can avail yourself of the benefit of the scheme.
Bihar
The state government of Bihar is offering a subsidy of ₹1.5 for Scheduled Caste on buying an electric car; additionally, you will get full exemption from the road registration fee, and you won’t have to pay any road tax for the first five years.
The subsidy is also applicable for other categories, but they will get only ₹1.25 lakh rupees. Note that the car you want to buy should come under the state EV policy; if it doesn’t, you won’t get the benefit.
